The Market Place in the 1880’s. This area near to the church was known as “Top o’ th’ Town”. In the centre are cottages which formed part of the market house built in the early 17th century. Next to them is the “new” market cross, and to the right (not visible in the photo), is the Old Sparrow Hawk Inn. If you followed the road on the left, this lead to the bridge over the river Brun.
